Assisi was one of my most unplanned trips, or, should i say it happened by accident and i am more than glad it happened. Famous for St Francis & as a holy town, this place will leave any visitor enamoured by its universal appeal. Yes, it is touristy and of course the places cashes in from St Francis's legacy but that is not a deterrent at all. Most of the visitors to Assisi are day trippers and it can get a little crowded. So, if you really want some peaceful time in this pretty pretty town, then i would suggest that you go there early, or, go late & enjoy some sundowners.
